How It Works

How talk2 me works

It's beautifully simple. No apps, no accounts, no notifications. Just a notebook and a willingness to be real.

Step 1: Write

When something's hard to say out loud — or when you just want to share something meaningful — open the notebook and write it down. Take your time. Be honest. Cross things out if you need to. This isn't about getting it perfect. It's about getting it real.

Step 2: Pass it

Leave the notebook somewhere they'll find it. On their pillow. In their backpack. On the kitchen counter. The placement is part of the message — it says 'I wrote this for you.'

Step 3: They respond — when ready

There's no reply timer. No read receipts. They read it when they're ready and write back when they're ready. That's the point. Some conversations need space to breathe.

Step 4: Keep it going

Pass it back. And again. Over weeks, months, and years, the notebook becomes a record of your relationship — the big talks, the small moments, and everything in between.

What's inside the notebook

  • Guided prompt pages — thought-starters for when you don't know what to say
  • Free-write pages — open space for when the words just flow
  • 'From me to you' and 'From you to me' sections — so it's always clear whose turn it is
  • Quick check-in pages — for the busy days when you just need to say 'I see you' or 'I'm here'

Tips for getting started

  • Don't overthink the first entry. A simple 'I'm glad we're doing this' is enough.
  • Let your kid set the pace. If they take a week to respond, that's okay.
  • Use it for the good stuff too — not just the hard talks. Celebrations, encouragement, pride.
  • Don't correct their spelling or grammar. This isn't school.
